Why Gluten is So Bad

First of all, many people have Celiac’s, Crohn’s, Colitis, and IBD.  They shouldn’t have wheat products.  Also, the wheat crop absorbs a lot from the ground, which was probably favored in ancient times, but now wheat crops absorb almost 18 times as much toxins from the soil as other cereal grains like rice and corn.

A good alternative is rice.  Rice is easy to grow, harvests are big, both white and brown are good, and they fuel your activity and warm up your body.

Corn in it’s natural state isn’t that bad, but that crop erodes the topsoil very quickly.  The only reason corn is number one is because we fatten up chickens and cows with it.

Quinoa is good.  Gluten free, pseudograin, high in complete protein, fiber, and starch.  It is the ‘mother grain’,

Sweet Potatoes will always be one of the best starchy staples.  Nuff Said.

Even beans and lentils can be seen as both a protein source, and a starch source. It also has fiber in it and is a great substitute for meat if you are vegan.

So really, in this day and age, wheat should be put aside and other staples should take the forefront.

Don’t Believe in Diets…

Because they don’t work.  A mostly grain based, produce heavy vegan diet would be best, but since very few have the discipline to do this, and it’s simply not convenient to live in modern society and cook all your own food, I suggest just learning a lot about nutrition and what works for you.

Obviously, if you know anything, the cattle industry is ruining the world.  Chicken and Fish is fine, but too much protein and salt will cause problems down the road.  And all restaurant merchandise is overly greasy, salty, and laden with chemicals.

The best diet is the one that keeps you slim and healthy, spending less on food, and not worried about what to have for dinner.  Nutrition hasn’t changed that much over the past 10,000 years.  Not at all.

If you are obese or diabetic you already have a serious health condition.  Try to educate the young on nutritional science before it is too late for them.  All I am saying is Keto and Paleo and Raw Foods Fructarianism is all a huge mistake and part how the propogandist media (and social media) betray you and confuse you on purpose.

The three worst food types are dairy, sugar, and gluten, and even then there is a time to every purpose under the sun.

For a normal to slightly overweight person, grains and vegetables should be their best friends.  And there seems to be an inverse relationship between animal foods in the diet and health.  Those are two principles you can rely on.

Arroz con Pollo

This delightful Spanish term means, ‘rice with chicken’.  It is a classic dish, in Latin American cooking as it is in every other type of cooking.  In fact, you can eat anything with rice, rice is the ultimate cereal crop because it is so easily digestible and has a thousand uses.

I seem to eat some variant of this often, and all the different restaurants and ethnic cuisines offer their version of it.  It’s a classic.

What I’m trying to allude to in this post is that many people get by just eating light protein and some starch, like rice, which is an excellent source of easily digestible starch.  And this works for a long time, but without some variety of vegetables and to a lesser extent fruits, trace mineral deficiencies may rise up if it goes on too long.

Eat a varied diet, and your dietary regimen goes far beyond what you had for dinner last night, or looking forward to tonight.

In Touch with the Cosmos

If you really think about it, life is very deep and rich and yet at the same time tragic and comical.  Not only have humans gone through generation after generation, slowly accruing empirical knowledge, but so have the animal kingdom and plant kingdom too.  The fish we eat today are multitudinous descendents of fish our ancestors ate thousands of years ago.  And the same thing for the potatoes and wheat grains and vegetables and whatever else.

It shows you our genetics is a secret link to the past, and that man is heaven and earth in miniature.

Another thing one must realize is that to eat meat, eggs, and fish, you have to kill animals.  Cute, fuzzy warm animals.  And being vegan is just avoiding the problem, since you can’t live without killing.  Even taking a shower or using pesticides (natural or synthetic) is killing.  We are at once one with creation and yet since we have fallen from grace, we must kill or be killed.

Thankfully, man is the apex predator, but that doesn’t mean we are all safe all of the time.

What I am trying to say is, any subject of human endeavor can give you deep insights into the human condition, even the most basic subject, nutrition.

The Bare Minimum to Get Your Health Back

I am going to run down my basic advice for a beginner, someone who is obese or perhaps slim but never exercised or ate right.

The first thing is sugar restriction.  The Low Carb Diet is the beginning.  Start by reducing sugar and starch to the bare minimum and read the book, ‘Dr Atkins Diet Solution for a New You’.

After two weeks of low carb dieting, start walking.  Walk 20 minutes daily or build up to it by doing every other day and your stamina will increase.

The essential knowledge is calories in calories out.  You have to be in a caloric deficit to lose weight.  You have to eat a lot of protein to have big muscles.  Simple as that.  The main thing in the initial phase of this lifestyle is vegetables, both starchy and non starchy, and protein.  I don’t recommend getting protein from dairy products.

Get protein from fish, eggs, sometimes chicken, and oftentimes lentils and chickpeas or similar legumes.

Once your weight returns to normal range, add a bit of sugar and starch back to the diet.  Good sugar is like fruit and honey and good starch is like sweet potato or even regular potato.

Get into the habit of knowing your own body.  Increase sugar when you are doing good and decrease sugar when you are overindulging.  It’s a lifestyle not a quick fix.

But man’s choicest foodstuff will always be vegetables, protein is essential, and grain is essentially cheap filler (which has it’s uses).  Dairy is the worst, but there are exceptions.

So there you have it.  The dumbest of the dumbies can get this, let alone you, gentle reader and my fellow bloggers on WordPress.  I’m not a doctor, but I am an athlete, martial artist, acupuncturist, and yogi.  So I know what I am talking about.

And if you would like a brief (and cheap) summary of all my wholistic health knowledge, go to http://www.amazon.com/author/lioravni to look if you like my ebook.  It’s a lot like this blog.  Only condensed into one convenient book.
