Considering Keto

I know I dont usually jump on any bandwagons, but I’m starting to consider the ketogenic diet.

And not for weight loss, athletic performance, or a six pack of abs.  I heard that the ketogenic diet reverses many disease processes in the body such as brain disease, autoimmune disease and even infectious disease, like STDS.

After all, Dr Sebi cured people of AIDS and his whole spiel was starch free diets.

I’m not a huge fan of pasta and fruit, they satisfy sweet cravings, and I love meat with lots of fat and salt, but I eat one way and not the other because of guilt.

We are brainwashed into thinking meat and fat is bad and sugar and starch is nature.  But this brainwashing only started in the mid 1950s.

Read diet books from a hundred years ago, and they ENCOURAGE butter, eggs, beef, chicken, and bacon.

So maybe I’m a victim of propaganda too?

What Has Really Changed

Not much of human nutrition has changed in the past 10,000 years.  Nothing at all.  In past civilizations, people ate lamb, chicken, cheese, butter, and egg with glee and the environment was not in danger.

What has changed in the past 50 years, starting midway through the twentieth century, was HOW we grow our food, be it plant or animal.

The factory line production method was applied to farming, agriculture became big business, and not only pesticides began to be used but farmers became rich enough to lobby politicians as an interest group.

This was a devastating change for everyone.  Seeing animals as machines and not living beings we symbioticly live with is dangerous.  Farmers are encouraged in their trade manuals to see the pig as a machine not a mother of children.

Human nutrition has not changed.  We became omnivores over the millennia.  But human greed and the devil known as capitalism ruined everything.  And all out of the fear of not making enough money.

It is the economics that are ruining the planet, and people like Donald Trump stand accused.  All they care about is profit margins.

Theres nothing wrong with eating or wanting to eat animal food.  Lions kill other animals.  But man is steward of the land.  His responsibility is to take care of God’s creation and not deplete it.

People in the bible ate milk and meat too, by the way.  That was the custom of semitic shepards.  Are we any better?

So dont blame the ordinary man for the evil of corporate america.  You’re a human being, eat what you want to eat.

Say live and let die.

Maybe Veganism is Overrated?

First of all, I vote with my dollar bill for animal rights, sustainable agriculture, and environmentalism.  But isn’t eating meat, fish, and eggs part of our history, culture, and evolution?

This post is far reaching and deep, so bear with me.  One of the reasons man has such a large developed brain is because he evolved to hunt and fish and cultivate plants, as in agriculture.

If you study nutrition, the chicken egg is the number one protein for human nutrition, and the gold standard by which the amino acid profile of all other protein foods are measured.  Fish is brain food, it contains Omega 3 fatty acids in such abundance that it is hard to develop a brain without it.  And good old beef is full of protein, iron, zinc, and everything else to make you feel strong and hot-blooded.

We must get vitamin B12 from our diet, and plant sources such as seaweed are not in the right form to assimilate by the human body.  All this make me wonder.

There is no life without fighting and killing, like Renzo Gracie, a master of Brazilian Jiujitsu once said, ‘everything in life is a fight, even getting out of bed in the morning!?’  that means we can’t completely avoid it.

Also, be aware that your physical body is mortal, and someday, it will lie lifeless on the ground, without your spirit, and become food for worms, insects, and vultures, who will mercilessly rip it apart.

Dairy product after infancy is totally useless and unnatural, anybody who thinks deeply can see that.  Milk is baby food.  A cow baby drinks cow milk and a human baby drinks human milk.

But without the hunter, the fisherman, and the farmer, the human race would have never made it this far.  Think that one over.

Fearing for others as you fear for yourself,

Do not kill or cause others to kill.  The Buddha, a Nepalese Prince originally named Siddartha Guatama said that 2,500 years ago.  Be humane.  The world of thought and knowledge is advancing quickly, especially due to the internet, social media, and the sharing of previously withheld information.

The cattle industry, which supplies us with meat and milk, is ruining the environment faster than anything else people are doing, including transportation.  You have a say, you vote with your dollar bill.  How you spend your money shapes geopolitics.

There is no need to feed a population of 7 billion people with dung-covered steak and cheese.  If everyone ate like an American, there wouldn’t be enough food.  If everyone was somewhat vegan, there’d be a dinner and a half for every man, woman, and child.

Animals are sentient.  We can’t live without fighting and killing, even taking a shower or stepping on an ant is killing.  But we can reduce our karmic debt and our carbon footprint by eating less meat and milk products, less chicken, and more fish, eggs, sweet potatoes, corn, beans, and vegetables and so on.

I sincerely believe that when it comes to food and medicine, America is worst of the worst.  Just take a trip to Europe, Israel, or India, or Japan for that matter, and you won’t see decrepit people in their thirties and forties and beyond.  Their governments aren’t lying to them.  Their governments aren’t robbing them.  Their governments aren’t murdering them.

Nobody should be obese.  Nobody should be diabetic in their youth or middle age.  The vegan diet, as well as the knowledge of yoga, vedanta, and ayurveda is the fountain of youth and should be common knowledge to everyone.

There is an inverse relationship between animal food in the diet and robust health.  Remember that.

Even if for no other reason than compassion for furry, gentle, kind, helpless animals, you should eat more plant food and eat less animal food.  We are all sentient creatures.  We want to live no matter what and no one wants to die.  Remember that.

Why Gluten is So Bad

First of all, many people have Celiac’s, Crohn’s, Colitis, and IBD.  They shouldn’t have wheat products.  Also, the wheat crop absorbs a lot from the ground, which was probably favored in ancient times, but now wheat crops absorb almost 18 times as much toxins from the soil as other cereal grains like rice and corn.

A good alternative is rice.  Rice is easy to grow, harvests are big, both white and brown are good, and they fuel your activity and warm up your body.

Corn in it’s natural state isn’t that bad, but that crop erodes the topsoil very quickly.  The only reason corn is number one is because we fatten up chickens and cows with it.

Quinoa is good.  Gluten free, pseudograin, high in complete protein, fiber, and starch.  It is the ‘mother grain’,

Sweet Potatoes will always be one of the best starchy staples.  Nuff Said.

Even beans and lentils can be seen as both a protein source, and a starch source. It also has fiber in it and is a great substitute for meat if you are vegan.

So really, in this day and age, wheat should be put aside and other staples should take the forefront.

In Touch with the Cosmos

If you really think about it, life is very deep and rich and yet at the same time tragic and comical.  Not only have humans gone through generation after generation, slowly accruing empirical knowledge, but so have the animal kingdom and plant kingdom too.  The fish we eat today are multitudinous descendents of fish our ancestors ate thousands of years ago.  And the same thing for the potatoes and wheat grains and vegetables and whatever else.

It shows you our genetics is a secret link to the past, and that man is heaven and earth in miniature.

Another thing one must realize is that to eat meat, eggs, and fish, you have to kill animals.  Cute, fuzzy warm animals.  And being vegan is just avoiding the problem, since you can’t live without killing.  Even taking a shower or using pesticides (natural or synthetic) is killing.  We are at once one with creation and yet since we have fallen from grace, we must kill or be killed.

Thankfully, man is the apex predator, but that doesn’t mean we are all safe all of the time.

What I am trying to say is, any subject of human endeavor can give you deep insights into the human condition, even the most basic subject, nutrition.

The Real Reason Why The World is Suffering

And the real reason why veganism is pointless.

And that would be overpopulation.  Simple as that.  You see, hundreds of years ago, especially before the industrial age, people were simpler and lived mostly on family farms or in cities surrounded by fruitful land.  They took eggs from chickens they themselves owned and took care of, and drank milkproducts from healthy cows they took milk from naturally.  They could also go to a nearby stream and catch a fish that wasn’t totally toxic with mercury.

The age of enlightenment and the industrial revolution created new technologies that made life much, much easier for humans.  Labor saving devices, from agriculture to telephones to large ships that could cross oceans in style, developed at this crucial time.  And yet, technology ruins everything.

Everybody wants the same necessities and even the same luxuries.  We are all equal in suffering.  But create a world where there are billions of people all wanting the same thing, and you have a recipe for chaos.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to eat eggs, cheese, butter, or the meat of any animal.  We’re now omnivores just like the humble dog is.  So going vegan really is pointless.  It’s too late to save the environment.  And keep in mind, the earth will endure long after humanity dies out, the environment will be there, but the earth won’t be supportive of human life.  So we’ll all die.

You are not responsible for anyone but yourself, but i’m sure if you’re normal you care about your family too.

Every human being loves privacy and a space of his own.  It is something inborn in us.  But create too many people, and suddenly, the standard of living plummets through the floor.

More people means more trouble and a lower standard of living.  We can’t reverse this trend, because only a madman like Hitler would kill people just because they are useless or undesirable.  That’s just not moral, just, or humane.

Not everyone needs to reproduce, and if you are in a state of wealth and independence to have children, try to limit your family to two or three offspring.   Think about yourself, think about your children, and think about the children of the human race and how the future will be for them.

The lacto-ovo vegetarian diet has been proven by all forms of science to be the ideal human diet.  And don’t be afraid to be an opportunist and eat fish from time to time.  The main idea is to lessen your carbon footprint and leave the environment healthy for your future generations.  That is all you can do as a human being in the modern age.

Please consider this thought.

Do Not Fear Fruit

Despite having lots of sugar in it, whatever type depending on what fruit you are talking about, eating fruit is a good thing.  The tree or plant actually wants you to eat it’s fruit, because that is how the seed travels to other locations and takes root elsewhere.

When doing a sugar-restrictive diet, try to differentiate between good carb foods and bad carb foods.  Most types of fruit, especially lower Glycemic Index kinds, have sugar and fiber in them, so the fiber mitigates the rise in blood sugar and insulin.  That makes fruit a good thing.

Fruit is a good carb, a good food, and what God intended man to eat in the Garden of Eden.  Grain and Meat came later.

The only two really heinous food groups/types are Dairy and Grain, and even these have exceptions.  No animal needs dairy after weening of it’s mother’s milk, and Grain was hybridized by agriculturalists thousands of years ago as a cheap way to fill empty stomachs.

Some grains, like white rice, have a side benefit of curing diarrhea.  Oatmeal also has a similar effect.  And there are decent dairy products like butter or ghee, which makes an excellent cooking fat.

The point is, when looking for the Dietary Monster that is making the western world, fat, miserable, and dying, look somewhere other than fruit.  There are a lot of worse things out there.

Fancy Feast

Not everybody around the world lives in such abundance like here in America.  In poor countries, your lucky to eat anything.  You don’t get to be picky.  The point is, we should be grateful for what we have and not overthink nutrition.

Don’t be too picky when selecting food and don’t spend too much.  No matter how advanced the human race gets, vegetables will always be man’s main food stuff.

There is an observable trend in the West that people are trying to be healthier.  But remember, at the end of the day, its all about calories in and calories out.

Also, people in the USA tend to overdo animal foods like meat and milk.  Previous generations didn’t gorge themselves day in and day out.  They also did natural farming and gardening before the invention of the term, ‘organic’.

There is no reason to eat ‘health food’ because it’s just too complicated.  Eat less often and less in between meals, and your body will recuperate.  That’s the reality of the situation.

Home Cooked Food

To me, there is nothing better than the satisfaction you get from cooking and eating your own dinner.  Cavemen did the same thing thousands of years ago, and it still rings true to modern man.

One of the big reasons home cooked food is better than restaurant food is that when you make food yourself, you know exactly what ingredients are going into it.  The biggest difference between home cooked food and restaurant merchandise is the quality of the cooking fat.  The quality of the cooking fat can make or break the healthiness of a meal.

In restaurants, they use cheap fats and vegetable oils in order to maximize profit margins.  You can practically smell the soybean oil when you walk into a typical Chinese restaurant.  And who knows what they use in a diner or fast food joint.  Really, capitalism ruins everyone’s day.

The best cooking fats to use at home include ghee or butter, olive oil, coconut oil, and there are other lesser known oils that go rancid very quickly.  Refined vegetable oil is crap and a big influence in many diseases.

The reason we like fatty foods is because fat is sweet and contains the most amount of calories per gram.  A successful hunter or shepard naturally wanted the food with the most nutritional and caloric density, because in olden times food was scarce and people weren’t confused about what to get at the grocery store.

But back to home cooked food.  Not only can you use a higher quality cooking fat when you prepare your own food, but you can use higher quality ingredients, or even give or take layers of preparation.  Frozen vegetables and canned beans are a big time saver.

In the end, cooking quality food may be no cheaper than buying shoddy restaurant food, but the non fiscal advantages are a distinct improvement.  When you cook and eat better, you get the satisfaction of preparing your own food.  Also, you eat healthier food, which when repeated over and over again, will save your health and save you money on medical bills as you get older.   Another example is that you set a good example for your offspring, who will take on the eating habits of their parents which they’ve learned in youth.

The disadvantages are that it takes time and effort to cook, but really, is anything worthwhile easy?  Once you empower yourself with knowledge of nutrition and cooking, and you have the right tools of the trade, I see no reason why not to prepare your own food.  That restaurant/diner/deli/fast food stuff is poison and it’s only benefit is that buying ready made food is convenient.

So ultimately, you can choose between health, satisfaction, and doing the right thing, or convenience and cost.
