The Whole Fitness Debacle

A lot of people are confused about how to get in shape and stay in shape.  They’re looking for answers, unless of course, they don’t care about fitness and longevity, in which case they’re dying slow.

So I’ll just tell you.  Of the whole fitness equation, diet is 80% of it, if not more.  This isn’t an exact science, but it is safe to say with a reasonable degree of medical certainty that nutrition is the cornerstone of good health.  You are what you eat.

The ideal diet is a balanced one with all four major groups represented, including protein, whole grains, fruit, and vegetables.  Of course, in the real world, it is not easy to eat a perfect diet.  That is where sugar restriction comes in.

Sugar restriction is the best way for a fat, out of shape, inactive person to drop a lot of pounds in the short term.  It’s the best.  Just eat lean protein from a fairly healthy animal and some low starch vegetables and you’re good.

When you’re weight returns to a normal balance, start adding fruit and whole grain and other good carbs to your diet in small increments until you find the threshold of carbs where you can eat sugar and not gain the weight back.

Exercise is very important, for things like muscle tone, energy, fitness, mood regulation, and feeling good about yourself.  But don’t fool yourself.  You can’t out-train a bad diet.

What I Learned In Acupuncture School…

I learned a lot, because I was actually paying attention and had my full mental faculties about me.  The major thing is that the American people are sick and dying largely because of ignorance of the basics.

People in other countries don’t need a nutrition lesson, because they eat a lot of fiber and walk more than we do.  They have to.  Grain and vegetables is easier to procure and requires less resources than meat and milk, so these poor people eat more fiber and don’t eat as often as we do.  They also have to hustle to make ends meet, there’s no welfare nation in other countries, so they get more movement in during the course of the day.

While socialism is basic human civility, and medicine and education should be given to every citizen free of charge, America is a capitalist society, where all actions are motivated by self interest and the government and media appeals to this inclination in man’s nature.

Joseph Goebbels, the master of propaganda for the Nazi Party once said, ‘think of the media as a keyboard, on which the government can play.’  That is exactly what has happened to America, a nation led by capitalism and competition.  People, even educated people, are largely ignorant of what people are supposed to eat.

The food industry is focused on profit, not health, and thus advertises its junk food on tv and other media.  Not only that, but commercial food has become a type of merchandise, altered in both taste and appearance to be addictive to the consumer.  Add on top of the fictional ideas that people need more than 100g a protein a day or should avoid cholesterol completely, and you have a recipe for disaster.

The main food should be whole grains and vegetables, cooked over low heat for a long time.  It doesn’t matter where you get your protein, most people are getting too much, and the food manufacturers put sugar in everything not only to make it taste better, but to make you addicted to the food.

Meat and milk should not be daily food, it should be a rarity, and in the past it was.  It is only with the progress in agricultural technology in the 1950’s that the beef and dairy industries began confusing the common people with propaganda.

So in essence, ignorance of children’s knowledge has made the American people the most miserable of all, and people are actually digging their own graves without basic tools to live.

The least you can do…

To improve your health and turn your life around, is to stop eating so much dairy and gluten.  That stuff is almost poisonous.

This minor adjustment, and perhaps to some it’s not so minor, can make a remarkable impact on your health and strength.  Dairy refers to any cow milk product and gluten to any wheat product.

While wheat is a somewhat natural crop, it is still not the most advantageous food in the human diet.  Even whole wheat bread and pasta, let alone cookies and cakes, contains gluten, the protein found in wheat.  It is very allergenic and also the wheat crop itself absorbs a lot more toxins from the soil than other cereals and things eaten for starch.

And now onto dairy.  You drank your mother’s breast milk when you were a baby.  You’re not a kid anymore, and you have no need for the breast milk of a different species.  In China, if a farmer has a cow, he gives his cow soybeans to make her more productive.  That is a good source of useful calcium, the soybean, but then again so are almonds, broccoli, sesame seeds, etc…

Nobody is supposed to consume milk products of a different species after they are all grown up.  Milk is growth serum for a baby of it’s respective mother.  In fact, people who consume dairy products are the minority around the world population, not the majority.

So I think I have educated you, gentle reader, on why the first step in improving your diet, and therefore improving your life, is to eliminate dairy and gluten from the foods you regularly consume.  You could go further, but start there…

Departing from Vegetarianism

The thing I noticed about high protein, low sugar diets is that they work.  There’s no underestimating the effects of sugar restriction on your bodyweight, it actually works.  I guess high fiber, high starch diets are eaten in third world countries by necessity, not by choice.

While animal agriculture is ruining the environment, the underlying truth is that overpopulation is ruining the human race’s lifestyle, and all people basically need the same things.  I don’t suggest the entire human population become vegan, it’s just not natural, and it’s probably not sustainable.

The answer to the protein dilemma is variety.  Don’t get all your protein from one food source all the time.  Nobody in the western world (this may be a blanket statement) is suffering from protein deficiency.  It is probably the most overconsumed nutrient next to sugar.

There’s no reason for the western man to be vegetarian or vegan unless he is Buddhist, and is against killing.  I find myself being practical and utilitarian in that I choose the soup that I like based on what is available, not by some pretentious ideal.

Eat what is natural, simple, and easy based on the circumstances.  It is only in a world ruled by the media that people don’t know the basics.  Obesity is a crime upon yourself, and you have your own self to blame.  Don’t blame genetics or the authorities.

But the answer to killing or not killing animals is do what though will.  We’re not the only species that eats both plants and animals, so don’t take sides.  Obviously a diet of hot dogs and hamburgers will lead to diseases both mental and physical, but the real trick to being sane and healthy is moderation.  And this is a discipline that can be learned, but cannot be taught.

Taoist Medicine: It’s not a religion.

I want to write a brief philosophical post on my fitness blog in order to clarify what is really right and what is really wrong.

Traditional Chinese Medicine, aka Taoist Medicine, is not a religion.  It doesn’t talk about an afterlife, a father-like Godfigure who is the epitome of good, nor does it talk about an evil soul ghoul who is the epitome of evil.

Taoist Medicine is a lifestyle.  It doesn’t promise you paradise or a messiah, but it does promise you a longer life with less pain and illness.  And really, isn’t that enough?

I learned in Chinese medicine school that the chi, or breath of life, in you is neutral, you can use it any way you like.  The original Taoist philosophy is based on the works of Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu.  Tao is the religion of no religion, and Taoist Medicine is about not getting sick in the first place.

That is what I am striving for with this blog.  Giving away free health advice because we are all entitled to longevity and health, it is our inborn right.

Western Medicine is effective, but not safe.  Eastern medicine is safe, but less effective.  As the old cliche goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  By learning the Taoist Medicine lifestyle, you can learn to live a better life, suffer less, and spot the disease process before it happens, so you can retract from doing what is harmful.

Longevity is Merit

Just like the early generations of the bible could live hundreds of years and beget dozens of children, real men of integrity endure long on the earth and live to see the third generation.

Longevity is merit, because righteousness saves from death.  The generations before Abraham were not Jews, since Abraham was the first Jew, they were more like aborigines, interacting with Jah directly.

Why am I discussing biblical evidence in a fitness and nutrition blog?  Because health, longevity, and dietetic practices for keeping oneself clean and alive originate in the Bible.  You just have to really understand what is written and what is not written to really get it.

In nature, it’s survival of the fittest.  But Man exists separate from nature because we are the apex of guided evolution, and God’s greatest design.  Man has in subjugation all the living creatures of the earth and sea.  This is the real justification for eating meat, every plant and animal is for man’s use, whether they be for food, medicine, poison, work, or as a pet.  We are not just another species of ape fighting for survival, had that been the case, we would have went extinct a long time ago.

The real way to longevity is to do the right thing and keep living.  Karma has it that whatever you do will come back to you.  Even in business, the good businessman serves the communal good.

A man’s lifespan should be 120 years, but most fall short of this ideal.  The way to live is to live clean, eat clean, and stay clean.  I know we are all imperfect and deeply flawed, but we must constantly struggle for rectitude in a world that is far from fair.
