Cultural Ambassador
The Bio
A Cultural Bridge To The Islands.
Eddie Maiava Jr. brings a unique combination of Polynesian culture, music, leadership, and service to the Native Wellness Conference. Raised in Hauʻula, Hawaiʻi, Eddie spent approximately 13 years as a musician and dancer at the Polynesian Cultural Center, performing in its matinee, brass band, canoe, and evening shows. His years at the Center strengthened his connection to his own heritage while developing a deep appreciation for the many cultures of Polynesia.
At our conference, Eddie will serve as an important cultural connection to the islands, sharing a glimpse into the people, traditions, music, and spirit of Hawaiʻi—including a special evening of cultural entertainment on Tuesday night.
Eddie's experience extends far beyond the stage. Over roughly two decades on the U.S. mainland, he served in leadership and professional roles at institutions including Eastern Arizona College, Linfield College, The Evergreen State College, and Washington State government before returning home to Lāʻie and BYU–Hawaii. Throughout his career, Eddie has traveled extensively, connected with students and communities, and developed a reputation for leadership grounded in relationships and service.
At the heart of his story is a desire to give back—to the university, community, culture, and organizations that helped shape him. Eddie brings that same heart to the Native Wellness Conference, helping us experience Hawaiʻi not simply as a destination, but as a culture and community we have the privilege of learning from.
